CITY OF LOS ANGELES – MEDICAL SERVICES DIVISION The Medical Services Division is divided into three distinct sections: Correctional Care (Medical clinics operating within City jails), Occupational Health and Psychology. All sections are integral and function in a complimentary fashion so the Division's mission, vision, values and goals can be achieved. The primary goal is to provide quality medical and specialty care services to the populations served in compliance with local, state and federal regulations. NURSE MANAGER EMERGENCY APPOINTMENT – EXEMPT POSTION $34.80 PER HOUR DUTIES: Assigns, reviews, and evaluates the work of the clinical coordinators, nurses, and ancillary staff in the provision of services within the Medical Services Division. Applies sound supervisory principles and techniques in building and maintaining an effective work force; may perform clinical duties; fulfills affirmative action responsibilities; and does related work. REQUIREMENTS: 1. Possession of a current and valid Registered Nurse License issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing; and 2. Graduation from a recognized four-year college or university with a degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, or Public Administration; and 3. Five years of full-time paid professional registered nursing experience, three years of which must provide experience as a Charge Nurse, Unit Manager, or Clinical Coordinator. A Master’s degree in Nursing is preferred. Ambulatory clinics and urgent care experience is preferred. ADVANCE PRAC PRO COR CARE II (Nurse Practitioner / Physician Assistant) Salary: $81,181 - $103,648 A 5.5% bonus may be paid upon proof of certification by a recognized national professional organization in a nurse practitioner specialty that is relevant and applicable to the duties performed. Some positions require night work, for which a 5.5% bonus is paid. DUTIES: An Advance Practice Provider Correctional care is responsible for obtaining medical histories, performing physical examinations, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, assessing medical conditions, providing medical care and treatment, and performing related duties as required under standardized procedures and / or protocols established by the department in one of the City’s correctional care facilities. REQUIREMENTS: 1. Must be licensed as a: a. Registered Nurse and certified as a Nurse Practitioner by the California Board of Registered Nursing with documentation of education and training as a Nurse Practitioner in family practice, adult, or emergency medicine, and possess a current license and Furnishing Number which provides the ability to provide drug/medication orders in the State of California.; OR b. Physician Assistant with documentation of education and training as a Physician Assistant in family practice, adult, or emergency medicine, and possess a current license and Furnishing Number which provides the ability to provide drug/medication orders in the State of California.; AND 2. RELIEF CORRECTIONAL NURSE Salary: Day Shift – Weekday $43.15, Weekend $44.32 Evening Shift – Weekday $44.32, Weekend $45.51 Night Shift – Weekday $45.51, Weekend $46.70 DUTIES: A Correctional Nurse performs professional nursing services to arrestees/prisoners in City jails. Duties performed include; utilizing protocols in the provision of care, assisting the medical staff with patient evaluations and treatment, performing phlebotomy for forensic purposes, independently obtaining patient histories and performing patient assessments, performing focus physical examinations, performing diagnostic testing such as EKGs and urinalysis, providing emergency care and performing CPR, conducting sick call rounds, assisting with procedures, creating and maintaining medical records, collecting and documenting work statistics, testifying in court proceedings, may act as a lead nurse on an individual shift, and does related work. REQUIREMENTS: Possession of A valid and current and valid Registered Nurse License issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing NOTE: One year of full-time paid professional nursing experience working in an in-patient Critical Care unit, Emergency Department, Medical-Surgical unit, three years of which must provide experience as a Charge Nurse, Unit Manager or Ambulatory Care setting is desired.
