System Test Specialists & Engineers

The System Test Specialist or Engineer is responsible for timely design and execution of test protocols on fuel cell systems. The Engineer is required to establish, promote and maintain excellent rapport with all internal customers, co-workers, and others as appropriate. The Engineer is also required to maintain continuous communication with their direct manager. 

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish multiple goals
  • Performs many complicated work-related tasks on various product lines
  • Requires no direct supervision for daily operations based upon training
  • Leads and directs the work of other associates
  • Provides guidance to others on complicated situations

Technical Skills:

  • Designs and/or operates specialized test hardware, fixtures and data acquisition equipment
  • Participates in the preparation of engineering test prototype systems
  • Collects and analyze test data and prepare test reports
  • Performs in-process inspection of data and notify team of irregularities
  • Strong ability to troubleshoot and debug mechanical and electrical with the systems
  • Uses electrical schematics and piping/instrumentation diagrams for system commissioning, debugging and operation
  • Benchmarks test methods inside and outside the industry
  • Provides on-the-job training and in-house training as required

Skills and Experience:

  • B.S. in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical or Materials Engineering, and 2+ years of experience
  • Power generation or US Navy nuclear power experience a plus-                                              Supervisory engineering watchstation qualification (EWS/EOOW)
  • Experience in Testing environments
  • Experience using a structured problem solving process is desirable
  • Background in electrochemistry is desirable
  • Background in generation system technology fundamentals
  • Professional & collaborative – comfortable working closely with a team
  • Ability to communicate with all levels within the organization in a verbal and written manner – managers, co-workers, support services, electronic communications, et al.
  • Organizational and planning skills
  • Computer savvy – MS Office

 

Field Service Engineers – Junior & Senior Positions

The Bloom Energy Service team is seeking highly motivated Junior and Senior Field Service Engineers (FSEs) to join their growing team.  The FSE will be responsible for installation, commissioning, scheduled and emergency service on all Bloom Energy fuel cell systems.

The FSE will assist with technical site analysis and also manage customer relations in escalated situations.

Knowledge of electrical distribution systems, mechanical systems, various test and measurement equipment, electrical code and IEEE requirements, electronic principals and theory is required. The FSE will be responsible for providing exceptional customer service and must have the ability to travel as needed.

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Performs start-up / commissioning, preventive maintenance and unscheduled maintenance on all Bloom Energy SOFC equipment
  • Works closely with customers, technical support and engineering to resolve escalated problems
  • Identifies and analyzes root causes of system inefficiencies or failure
  • Assists in Level One monitoring of Bloom Energy systems
  • Provides detailed documentation for each site visit performed and submits reports in a timely manner
  • Maintains test equipment, calibration items, and other job related materials.
  • Assists in complex site surveys to help create installation design plans
  • Identifies and resolves more complex problems and applies problem-solving skills in order to deal with most situations.
  • Assist in system inspections
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Other Skills and Experience:

  • The following MINIMUM levels of experience are required:    

-Bachelors degree in one of the following disciplines: Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering and 2-5 years relevant experience

-Associate degree or Technical diploma in a technical field such as electronics and industry experience and 4-8 years of relevant industry experience (field service, technician, etc)

-3-5 years military experience in a relevant field (eg.Navy Nuclear Technician)  

  • Basic understanding of fuel cell operation desired, but not required.
  • Prior experience as an electrician or with large 3phase UPS systems is highly beneficial
  • Basic understanding of requirements of working safely with fuels such as natural gas, propane, and hydrogen
  • Must be able to read and interpret fuel cell/electrical single line diagrams and blueprints
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills; understanding of mechanical systems, piping, plumbing and valve operation preferred
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently
  • Demonstrated self-initiative and sound judgment
  • A team player who exhibits a high level of integrity and professionalism
  • Ability to communicate with all levels within the organization in a verbal and written manner
  • Highly customer-focused (both externally and internally)
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite
  • Able to travel as needed
